The Dee deposit began as an open-pit mine in 1984. In 1999, Glamis Gold became the operator of the Dee Mine and began underground development of the Dee Deep North deposit. It was during this underground development that many fabulous Barite specimens were collected. Unfortunately, underground mining was short-lived as both the Dee open pit and the Deep North underground operations were shut down in late 2000.
Barite specimens from Dee unique in appearance and are lustrous, golden-colored, and generally form either tabular or chisel-tipped style crystals. They would a great addition to any collection.
I think the Dee barite specimens went under the radar some due to the buzz surrounding the barite discoveries at the nearby Meikle mine (well-known now to collectors) several years earlier.
We have a large quantity of old dealer stock specimens we purchased 15+ year years ago that haven’t been out of their box until now. This is a great opportunity to add one of these specimens to your collection.
