Iran hosts hundreds of sediment-hosted (mostly carbonate) Zn-Pb deposits, including the Nakhlak Pb-Ag deposit in northeastern Isfahan Province. Evidence suggests this deposit was mined as early as the Sassanid Empire period (AD 226–651) (Hallier, 1972; Harper and Meyers, 1981), and it remains in active production today.
